Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress

A Trash the Dress shoot does not have to be about actually destroying the dress. Maree and Ash wanted their trash the dress shoot to be a chance to spend some time together after the wedding in a really relaxed and easy going setting where they could get some photos that they could have some more fun with. They wanted a beach setting so suggested Miami because the beach there has great rock formations as well the small sand dunes.

The day we picked for the trash the dress could not have had better weather. We went for close to sunset so we could use the beautiful light that time of day allows. There was very few people around which made it really easy to make the photos just about Maree and Ash. The colours that came out of the sky and reflected on the water were just what I wanted to create a beautiful backdrop for such a wonderful couple. I love most that the photos not only came out romantic, but fun as well. You can truly see the love between the two, but also their joyous side to life.

If you are considering a trash the dress shoot, think first about what you want out it. If you don’t want to destroy the dress, consider a location where the dress and suit can still be dry cleaned afterwards. The beach can be a great option for this because a bit of sand and water isn’t going to do much damage. If you are happy to simply put your clothes in the bin at the end of the shoot, then you could consider throwing some paint around, ripping/cutting the dress and rolling around in some mud. All make for really fun shoots. Location is so important in these because it doesn’t matter what you do in the foreground, if the background isn’t great as well.
